“Kaziranga National park”…The success story

The toiling rhino with its one horn,

Remarks the presence of nature even before we were born,

The smiling sky above and the singing birds,

Kaziranga is the nature’s pride of proverbs.

The significant biodiversity ever existing on the surface, had already made its way to world’s heritage site list in 1985. Area widely is spread over 429.93 sq km. with an additional area of 429.40 sq km. and is located amidst two districts of Assam, namely Golaghatand Nagaon. The total area of the park lying with Nagaon district is 175 sqkm., out of which 135 sq km. falls under the dense and dark Bagori ForestRange office and 40 sq km. falls within Ghorakati Forest Range office. Thus, maintained dimensionally and effectively by two different jurisdictions.

It receives the sub tropical monsoon, averaging the droplets by approximately 1320 m. the dense trees makes the temperature fall to 8˚C in winters making it cold and feminine while sun taking its advantage during summers ranges up the temperature approx to 38˚C making it harsh but still soothing as the forest fights to shade the earth.

Located on the banks of the mighty river: Brahmaputra, Kaziranga is a specific scenario with tall elephant grass and ample scenes of spotting of one-horned Rhinos which in near past have been slaughtered for its speciality of the ornamental one horn. But currently, preserving the species has become the major priority for the forest departments. Thanks, to the government preserving policies and effective precautions.

Touring the Kaziranga

Trips to Mihimukh, Baguri, Hole path,Arimarah, Kohora Cental Path-Baguri and Kohora Central Path-Bimoli can be teemed up with an exotic experience over elephant back or by car/ jeep. The magnificent beauty can be easily taken care of by the sight seeing in any manner you travel.

Major Attractions:

Strolling down the lushing greens can soothe the soul night and day. As well as the bushy plantations of coffee and rubber along Karbi village presents the visitor with the look of destined heaven. On addition to this, if you meet Karbi people then it’s a bonus to your trip.

You can stroll through the lush coffee and rubber plantations or nearby Karbi Anglong. Or you can visit the Karbi villages, meet the Karbi people, observe their life style or romp through the enchanting tea gardens and watch how you get your daily cup of tea. Film shows on wildlife can be arranged at the tourist lodge as well but only on request.

The four ranges of the big set Kaziranga includes:-

1.     The Agoratoli range: the Eastern part with water bodies and grasslands.

2.     The Kohora range: the Central part

3.     The Baguri range: the Western part having the highest number of rhinoceros.

4.     The Burhapahar: the first additional bonus area interlinked with the Park.


The savannas of grasslands comprising of enormous built of tall elephant grasses welcomes its visitors with an enormous breathtaking sight. There are other short grasses and tropical wet evergreen forests and tropical semi-evergreen forests. But still the basic attraction of Kaziranga is the elephant grass and its magnified combination with swampland that are created by the flaunty river of Brahmaputra.There are many ornamental and ayurvedic herbs available in the dense forest and is a source for everlasting Ayurveda.


It includes a wide variety off Aunal species ranging widely over many. The major wild attractions include a large population of Indian Elephants, Indian Bison, Swamp Deer or Barasingha, Hog Deer, Sloth Bears, Tigers, Leopard Cats, Jungle Cats, Otters, Hog Badgers,Capped Langurs, Hoolock Gibbons, Wild Boar, Jackal, Wild Buffalo, Pythons,Monitor Lizards, etc. the list will continue and will continue more according to your visit and your vision. The Ganges Dolphins, Otters, Rock Pythons and other varieties of snakes, and Turtles are the other popular animals of the Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary.


Kaziranga: the birding paradise,is a major bird breeding zone of northeast India. It ranges widely from Eagles to Swamp Partridge and from Red Jungle Fowl to Rose-breasted Parakeet. Most common vision includes: White-cheeked Partridge, Blue-breasted Quail, Red Jungle fowl, Black Kite, Brahminy Kite, Black-Shouldered Kite, Fulvous Whistling-duck, Himalayan Griffon, Grey-Headed Fishing Eagle, Greater White-fronted Goose, Bar-headed Goose, Grey Peacock Pheasant, Pallas’s Fishing Eagle, Rose-breasted Parakeet, Oriental Honey Buzzard, White Tailed Eagle, etc.the marvelous migrating breed includes Graylag Geese, Bar-Headed Goose, Ruddy Shelduck, Gadwall, Falcated Duck, and Red-Crested Pochard.

Mammals and reptiles:

The fauna’s presence is exotic. It ranges from the near extinction one horn rhinoceros to tigers to elephants. Broadly the categories include all types of carnivorous, herbivorous and omnivorous animals like Tigers, Leopard Cats, Jungle Cats, Otters,Hog Badgers, Capped Langurs, Hoolock Gibbons, Wild Boar, Jackal, Wild Buffaloes etc. However, there are reptiles ranging from venomous to turtles to dangerous lizards. The park homes the rare Monocle Cobra, as well as three of the Big Four- Indian Cobra, Russell’s Viper and Common Krait.

Want to be there?

The convenient base near the national park is Jorhat and Guwahati of Assam. From there you can board a car or a jeep to enter the premises of the folklore of Kaziranga.

Entry to the park requires a general fees and the hired car takes approx of 1000 INR for a one and half hour ride. But the beauty lies in with the experts: the elephant ride or the jeep ride, which also is chargeable.

 By Air: Nearest airport is at Jorhat which is 97 km away from Kaziranga while the airport at Guwahati is 217 km away from the park. Both of them are well connected with the major cities of India and provides a good communication between the same.
By Rail: Furkating, the nearest rail connected junction which is 75 km away from the national park is well connected with Guwahati. Further, Guwahati is a place that is further well connected with the services throughout India. Being a tourist spot it is also linked with the Rajdhani and Express trains.From the junction, a trip to Kaziranga can be organised by cars, buses etc.
By Road: Kohora: the entrance is well connected with NH-37 and hence is an easy route by the roads approaching the park easily. There is further more travel ease for visitors to Kaziranga as many private buses reserve seats for the visitors specially. However, AC and non AC buses, both are available easily.
